What is the perfect mix? Harley Davidson, who have mixed their Harleys with Baby Boomers and found they are a perfect mix. Baby Boomers are approaching the social security age so why in the world who want a Harley? Boomers are not like earlier groups of persons have already approached retirement. Boomers still want to live their youth.
Harleys offer fun, excitement, emotion and also a position of class envy. Harleys not cheap, so these yuppies want to buy one and show your financial situation. They are not the fastest or the easiest bikes to ride, but they do not matter a Boomer. It is the perception. Harley, girls Harley, Harley road trips are all part of the dream that unites the war with his Harley.
Even the name of the Harleys seems to point toward us older people. Harley Softails reminds me that I need a soft place to park at the rear of age. Harley Motorcycles Fatboy and a peak in the mirror reminds me of my physical condition. Let's not forget Harley jackets, sunglasses, riding breeches and hundreds of other must have accessories Harley. Face it, Boomers may be getting old, but still need everything.
We may even enjoy the auction of motorcycles, especially if there are any Harleys good buys. Heck, even buy a Harley Davidson, and rarely ride it. Only in the park garage and wait for it to appreciate. Funny to think, you normally do.
We grew up watching films of motorists, the call to Sturgis, and Hells Angels. When we sat on the hog, we can not have a vision of being one of the "bad", but misunderstood biker. We just know owning a Harley Harley comes with girls. It is probably a myth, but a self-respecting boom is certainly not going to deny. This is the image.
Bottom line, the good people over at Harley-Davidson have cultivated this image of Harley motorcycle riders be a tough guy. This image has resulted in a very successful profitable business that just continues and continues. Harley-Davidson and Japanese bikes have no comparison. The Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and have the reputation fun, power and sports. However, can not compete with the rumble of a Harley with a Baby Boomer straddling this beast with a big smile on his face.
