The victims of this deadly disease gradually lose control of voluntary muscles of the body. Anyone can get ALS and there is no effective treatment or cure for ALS. But a Cape Cod-based nonprofit, Compassionate Care ALS, Oakley has been helping other ALS patients, their families and caregivers to live with this life changing reality. All donations made by the 4 corners Motorcycle Ride will go directly Compassionate Care ALS.

â € œSince I bought my first Harley Davison, 11 years ago, I wanted to do â € ~ ™ € 4 Corners ride my motorcycle. Last fall, after noticing my lower use of fine motor skills and muscle cramps in his left hand, I diagnosed with ALS. This diagnosis was shocked to realize that life is not going to wait until a more convenient time and I am finally going to travel in the â € ~ 4 Corners ™ € with my good friend Paul Zepf, â € said Oakley. â € OEI'm doing this trip not only to fulfill my dream, but for raise funds and awareness for Compassionate Care ALS. This organization has already made a big difference in my life.es €

Oakley joined Paul Zepf, a retired Boston firefighter, a 33-year veteran of Rescue Company 2, a Vietnam veteran, in the 4 corners Motorcycle Ride which involves riding entire perimeter of the U.S. and stopping at each one of the most remote corners of the country: Key West, Florida, San Luis Obispo, California, Blaine, Washington and Machais, Maine.

Riding his Harley Davison, Oakley and began the long journey Zepf 8300 miles of Key West on May 14. From Key West, the pilots directed to San Luis Obispo, CA then Blaine, WA and the Machais, ME.

Weather permitting, throughout the journey traveled in 17-20 days. Both plan to return to Massachusetts on June 12.

Ride On 4 Corners & Compassionate Care ALS, Gordon T. Heald ALS Fund
The 4 Corners Motorcycle Ride increase the funding that allows for Compassionate Care ALS help victims of the disease. The organizationâ ™ € s work is based on the depth dialogue around the individual needs of each patient and the family and may include: emotional support, counseling, therapy, integration, contemplative practice, educational seminars, equipment, medicine bag or loan a van with disabilities. In addition, staff is sensitive to a wide range of special requests to help families face the challenge of living with ALS.

Founded in 1998, Compassionate Care ALS has helped over 520 families affected by ALS. Compassionate Care ALS (which now includes ALS T. Gordon Heald Fund) provides services to ALS patients, families, caregivers and health professionals.
The organization has raised more than $ 1.5 million and travel over 500,000 miles in support of ALS families. They have worked with patients, families, communities and caregivers in 24 states.

Jack Childs, Ed.D., professor / Founder Holistic Counseling Department at Salve Regina University has said, "The research strongly suggests that the immune system is diminished by the absence of a social support system. The personalized and exclusive services Compassionate Care ALS show that people can be cured without cured. "
