Is it possible to economically exceeded a motorcycle helmet or I'll be better than buying a new one?
I have a helmet full face Bell GT2 I bought in 1987 for $ 225. There is nothing wrong with it, except the lining has dried. All rubber, plastic and straps are in excellent condition. Account with air outlets and most of the features available in the latest helmets. It never has been in any accident or impact. The paint is still in a quite good. I'm not cheap. I hate to throw away something that can be used. I have additional new helmets that match my bike. This helmet does not match so I stopped using it. One of my friends asked for off road use (quad) horses. I do not want to give them if it dangerous.
Bell (helmet and other companies) do not usually sell kits bubble "due to security concerns of another person, besides playing with the manufacturer something that could affect the operation of the hull. There refill kits that add a little extra to fill-and good, but are not complete kits of foam. It is possible to create your own interior foam, or buy a kit for inserting a new helmet that has removable inserts to be attached to the hull in some way (no tail – you can eat the Styrofoam). Another thing to consider is whether the foam degrades, Styrofoam interior makes the most protection in a crash also may be compromised. Since your friend wants to use off-road ATV riding, I would a little less worried than I would a road cyclist, however, he still said a new helmet, it would be more convenient and probably safer. I know it was a group of money to pay at the time, but some things are not made to last forever.
