Selling on eBay Motors.
So, you are thinking about selling a car….
Well, eBay Motors is the place to be! When you register to sell on eBay all information is kept confidential and eBay requires sellers to register to ensure a safe environment for the entire eBay community. Something else that makes the whole eBay Motors selling process safer for everyone involved is that as a seller on eBay Motors you are part of a genuine, self-regulating community of car sellers. The extensive seller feedback that buyers have available to them makes it easier to trust the tried and true professional sellers. This makes it even more likely you can sell your vehicle for more, and sooner, on eBay Motors.
You don't have to be a dealer to sell a car on eBay. There are generally three types of sellers, private individuals, Dealer Seller Assistants, and Dealers. Also, you don't have to be an experienced eBay seller to sell cars. On-line training or live eBay University training is available from experienced eBay staff and eBay Motors sellers for individuals and for dealers. Individuals, dealers, and fleet managers will find that eBay's CARad listing service is a great plus for creating a nice looking ad with all the details necessary and for managing their auctions.
eBay Motors makes it simple by providing a "seller's checklist", which reminds you about everything you need for a great listing, including things like digital photos, the Vehicle Information Number (VIN), mileage, interior vehicle condition, exterior vehicle condition, etc.
One secret we all use... check out your competition...you can get valuable pointers on eBay Motors from experienced auto sellers to see how they describe and present their vehicles and what works for them. And of course you can check out completed auctions of similar vehicles for market pricing ideas. Use our Sell-It Price Finder tool to help research similar vehicles.
An honest, complete description of the vehicles builds buyer trust and trust encourages bidding. Sellers can certainly give potential buyers added confidence in the car description by having an independent third party verify the vehicles condition. There are two companies that do third party inspections in cooperation with eBay Motors, SGS Automotive and Pep Boys. An inspection gives buyers a complete evaluation of the car so they can more easily bid with confidence. SGS Automotive is the nations largest independent vehicle inspection company. This operation does a 150-point vehicle inspection, providing the buyer with the confidence that is crucial to any successful sale. Whether you are the buyer or the seller, you can order an inspection before you buy or sell the vehicle. Buyers must have the seller's permission prior to inspection. SGS has a network, all over the country of trained technicians that will do the inspection, wherever the car is (home office, or where ever it's convenient). They do inspections seven days a week, and once the inspection is done you have the report on-line in less than 24 hours. This is a company that doesn't sell vehicles, parts, or repairs. All they do is vehicle inspections and provide thorough, factual, detailed, independent inspection reports. This company checks out the vehicles interior, exterior, underneath the car and under the hood. They also recommend a short test drive (but its not required, and no additional cost). The other company doing inspections for eBay Motors is the well-known Pep Boys. They have coupon a on-site at eBay Motors for a vehicle inspection for $24.95, along with a store locator. No appointments are required, and you review the vehicle condition report once completed, before the service manager posts it to the eBay web site. Also Pep Boys offers 10% percent off on any products and services that you wish to do to your vehicle, as a result of the Pep Boys inspection. The Pep Boys inspection is a total cosmetic and mechanical inspection of your vehicle. The technician will survey the exterior and interior conditions, put the vehicle on the lift, remove the wheels, and check the suspension and brakes, and then, in conclusion, perform a test drive of the vehicle.
And so you may ask what it will cost to list my vehicle at eBay Motors? Compared to newspaper classified ads, not that much!! For passenger vehicles, aircrafts, boats, buses, commercial trucks, RV's, campers, and trailers the insertion fee (to get the ad up on eBay) is $40.00. The transaction services Fee for a successful listing (at the time of the first bid, or if there is a reserve price, the first bid over the reserve) is another $40.00. It is very, very important to note that eBay Motors does not charge a Final Value Fee at the close of the vehicle listings (quite different from the rest of eBay's price structure!!) Motorcycles, ATV's, Go Karts, Personal Watercraft, Scooters, and snowmobiles are all $30.00 insertion fee and $30.00 transaction services fee. As for photos, the first picture is free with listing, and $0.15 each additional picture. Supersize pictures are $0.75 for all the pictures listed and there is a vehicle pictures pack that is $2.00 for 12 Supersize pictures (Would you like fries with that?). The "Buy it Now" feature is an extra $1.00, putting a reserve price on the vehicle is $2.00 (refundable if the vehicle sells) $1.00 to schedule (set a start date) the listing, and an extra $5.00 for a 10 day (rather than the usual max - 7 days) listing. Bold listings are $4.00 more, and Highlighted listings are $5.00. That puts you at another $18 for what eBay says will raise your successful listing potential by as much as 18% or more. To have the listing category featured (your item appears at top of the category listing pages of the eBay Motors category of your choice) is $19.95 for each listing. The Gallery feature option gives your item exceptional targeted exposure on the primary eBay Motors shopping pages for $99.95 for vehicles (and $24.95 for a non-vehicle listing). A picture of your vehicle can appear in the featured display area at the top of the listings page. Your item can also appear at any level of listings or on the eBay motors home page.
Dealers may also apply for optional services like Square Trade for eBay Motors. This service will verify a dealer's license and can help instill more buyers' confidence.
I mentioned eBay's CARad ad service before. This is something that all sellers should look into. They make the listing process fail-proof so you can concentrate on getting the car sold. It has specialized tools to ensure the listing contains all of the information a bidder needs to make a decision and leads you through the ad writing process by actually writing your ad for you by asking you a series of questions. The result is professional, thorough listings, including links to car condition reports, financing, and shipping companies available as well as a CARad "showroom". CARad provides an email management system, up to 35 photos per listing (in an attractive slideshow format), seller's choice of over 50 html templates, auction-tracking technology, and trained customer service representatives. This costs $9.95 per vehicle listed, or for unlimited quantities of vehicles $299.00 per month. We feel this is well worth the fees.
If you are not comfortable with the eBay processes, you can ask for help from an eBay Motors registered Dealer Assistant. This is a person who has been doing this kind of work for at least a year, has attended eBay training classes, and who often represents dealers directly. Click here for information about the eBay Dealer Assistants program.
Happy listing!
