The changes have been made official on the eBay site. One of the big changes
is that sellers can no longer leave negative or neutral feedback on eBay. Yes
you read that correctly, no more negative. Why has eBay decided to do this?
Have you ever been to a mall and had an awful experience? Have you ever been
treated poorly by a worker at a store? What is your first reaction. "I am never
going back to that store!" This is one of the main reasons that eBay has decided
to do away with the ability to leave negative feedback, is because being
extremely rude to buyers hurts all of eBay. Not only does the seller not come
back, but he tells his friends.
Another reason that eBay has decided to get rid of the feedback is because
the feedback percentage means nothing. Have you seen a feedback percentage of
99.8 and 99.5, and wondered how bad could these sellers? Buyers are so scared to
leave a negative because they don't want to get negatives in return. So the
feedback numbers were becoming obsolete. Now, feedback will most assuredly drop,
and it will separate a good seller from a poor seller.
The idea is to bring the buyer back. This system will give eBay an honest
look at how buyers and sellers interact, and the buyer will not get the
embarrassing shopping situation of being harassed by poor eBay sellers.
This will probably lead to many bad sellers leaving eBay. All the better for
us. If you sell on eBay, it is time to weather the initial storm, and wait for
the bad sellers to leave. If you stay you will reap the rewards of the sellers
coming back to eBay.
